I'M GOING TO AMERICA !!
Yes folks, my first blog is here!
As many of you already know, in May 2021 I will travel to America, to start my journey as an Aupair.
For the people who know me a bit, this doesn't really come as a surprise. Traveling, discovering the world, stepping out of your comfort zone, starting new adventures ... is something that really suits me.
I want to share my stories and take you into my American Dream!! I will write blogs about the preparations, about my host family and of course about everything I will experience in the USA.

But how exactly did I decide to start this new adventure?
After my great year of internship and working in Lanzarote and Mallorca I was sure I wanted to see more of the world. Discover hidden beautiful places, visit the most beautiful beaches, get to know new cultures, meet new people and so on. At first I wanted to work again as a (hotel) entertainer, a profession that really suits me, one of the nicest professions I can even imagine. But I also wanted a whole new challenge, further away and with other responsibilities and that's how becoming an au pair came about.
I am going to take care of 3 wonderful, sweet girls. In the next blog I will tell you more about where and to whom exactly I am going and I will also describe my duties as an aupair.
Preparations
On Thursday evening December 31, 2020 I was matched with my host family. From then on everything went pretty fast, I had to wait for confirmation from America that our match was made official.
This happened on Monday January 04, 2021, my departure date was then set to the week of May 24, but I will probably leave/arrive in America around Friday May 28. When this was arranged I could start with the preparations, first I had to hand in all documents, documents such as my diploma, driver's license and passport. Later on I will also apply for my international driver's license, and I will have to get a health declaration filled in by the doctor and have a tuberculosis test done.
Wednesday, January 6, I spent the whole afternoon making courses that you must pass to be allowed to go to America, such as courses about safety, food and drinks, typical things in America, rules, etc.
On Monday afternoon January 11, 2021 I went to the town hall to apply for my VOG. (A certificate of conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG) is a document by which the Dutch Minister of Legal Protection declares that the applicant has not been convicted for any crime relevant to the performance of his or her duties.)
it would take 2 to 4 weeks before I would get my VOG, but to my surprise I had my VOG at 15 January already in. Super nice, because the sooner everything is arranged and in order, the better of course.
On Wednesday evening January 13, I was busy applying for my visa. Something that I clearly underestimated, because it took me about 3 hours because you have to provide so much information and answer so many questions. Anyway, that's over and on Monday March 22 at 09:00AM I have my appointment at the consulate in Amsterdam, where I will have an interview and will be told whether my visa application is accepted or rejected. Exciting!
At the beginning of March I will have my Get Ready workshop and online training school, something that would normally have been in the heart of New York City but unfortunately cannot take place due to COVID.
Finishing the first blog
Then I will now finish my first blog. I hope you enjoyed reading how my new adventure came about and what preparations I had to make for it. In the next blog I will tell you about my host family!
I am super excited to write more blogs and if you have any ideas, tips or other things ... LET ME KNOW !!
